Flying into Heathrow? Keep yourself Occupied

Situated in the London Borough of Hillingdon, Heathrow airport is the largest and busiest airport in London and indeed in the United Kingdom. As the airport which handles the most international traffic in the world, the chances are that at some point you will touch down in Heathrow. Knowing a little about the Heathrow airport and the surrounding area can prove extremely useful if you''re flying in for the first time or if you''re waiting - perhaps for a number of hours - for another flight to somewhere else in the world. Heathrow Airport is located around 22km west of Central London in the southern part of the Borough of Hillingdon. While it is located a fair distance from the city centre, those with a long stopover can easily make it into Central London on the tube or other forms of public transport like the Heathrow Express. Once in central London, keeping yourself entertained shouldn''t be a problem. Depending on the amount of time you have to spend in the city centre there''s the possibility of cultural day trips to places like Kensington Palace, Buckingham Palace or the Tower of London. If however you just have a few hours to spend in the capital, shopping is another popular alternative with places like Oxford Street and Covenant Garden sure to meet your needs. Sometimes however, there just isn''t enough time to make it into Central London and back and only enough time to grab a quick bite to eat. Like all airports Heathrow offers plenty of opportunities for eating and drinking if you are feeling hungry. As the biggest airport in Britain, the choices for food are many - although this can depend a lot on which terminal you end up in. Terminal four for example is known to have the least number of bars and restaurants so if you are staying here for a few hours it may be worth taking the train to terminal one in order to get a decent meal. Naturally, there''s only so much eating one can do and it''s important to know what other ways you can keep yourself entertained when waiting for a flight at Heathrow. Like all airports there are book and magazine stores throughout each terminal and if you haven''t brought any reading material with you, it might be worth making the investment. If you''re flying in from further afield - perhaps aboard your A380 flights to London Heathrow - and waiting overnight to catch a plane to somewhere else in the world, it might be worth splashing out and spending the night in a hotel. Heathrow has a number of airport hotels nearby, with a number of private and public buses providing transport to and from the airport in order to ensure maximum convenience for you. While a stopover at Heathrow may not feature highly on your holiday plans, if you know the airport, its amenities and the surrounding area, you will have no problem keeping yourself occupied and entertained.
